Immigration Authorities

Chee Soon Juan Stopped

Richard Yong: Got Through

ISD

Chia Thye Poh: securely detained for decades

Mas Selamat Kastari: Escaped

Any other examples?

The trend seems to be that if you are not a direct enemy of that party, the attention you get is much lesser (if any at all).

Took Leng How - the convicted and hanged murderer of Huang Na [escaped before turning himself in]

James Gomez - Stopped at the airport and then released with a "stern warning"

Molly, Li Hongyi was only "severely reprimanded" for leaving his command post early...

The latest foot-in-mouth for WKS is how he said the public wasn't informed of the escape for 4 hours because they assessed that Kastari posed "no imminent danger to the public", but only an hour after his escape, someone actually spotted him making his way up some steps to a park.

Now if the witness had actually known that the guy he spotted was an escaped terrorist, we wouldn't have to waste so much time and resources searching for him now.

Of course the public wasn't informed. If they had managed to catch that guy fast enough, they probably wouldn't have to inform the public at all. Or at least twist it into a story about how efficient they are.

The escapee pose no danger to them as they dun take public transport and appear in public places as often as commoners do.

CSJ is a big threat towards them as it may break their rice bowl, and he is surrounded with trucks of riots police, plain clothes and watched 24/7 by police video, as well as a few parrots repeating "This is a protected area, .. , this is a final warning ......"

Molly, you forget the greatest escapee in Singapore !

The topic should be named
Terrorists, Bankrupts, Politicians, Government

Why Government ?

Chee Soon Juan Stopped
Richard Yong: Got Through

ISD
Chia Thye Poh: securely detained for decades
Mas Selamat Kastari: Escaped

Government: Escapes (because it always successfully escapes therefore future and present tense)
Here why,
ShinCorpse : Escape
Temasek & GLC accountability : Escape
Where Nathan & PM : Escape to wonderland. No one knows where these important VIP are since they did not comment on terrorist issue. Maybe they still counting their million dollar paper one by one.
rules of law : Escape (not exactly because there actually no rule of law from the start

Our much-hated Home Minister made a blunder by contradicting himself in saying that the escaped terrorist does not pose an immediate danger to the public.

If he is not that dangerous after all, then why detain the terrorist under our dreadful Internal Security Act ?

And if indeed a bomb ever exploded in any part of Singapore immediately after the escape, I wonder what our great LKY will say about his nephew-in-law's blunder ?

I would imagine: "This proves to us all the more that it is necessary to have the ISA and that it is not regressive. In fact, GST needs to be increased to 117% and income tax by 15 times so that the ISD would get a budget equivalent to the already bloated defense budget."

Actually Molly, those that got caught or were prevented from leaving were people that the checkpoint officers/ other authorities were anticipating.

I dont think the Gurkhas, police, whatever, were expecting selamat to break out.

And who says he as left. I have a hunch that he is hiding until everything cools down before he slips out.

Anticipating? If that's the case why were they anticipating Chee and not Yong?

Those who were guarding that Mas guy should have worked as though they were anticipating an attempt to escape. Like all prisoners, he must be treated as a potential escapee. If you don't expect anyone to escape, then you won't bother to have tight security in the first place.

No wonder they won't allow 'riots'.

"In my view, one riot is one too many. Violence in the community takes a long time to heal. Once lost, public confidence in our security would take a long time to return."

Ironic how he said this just before the escape...
It's sad how they see freedom of expression as simply black and white. Freedom and Chaos vs Stability and Prosperity. I don't see how allowing the Complaint Choir and not censoring the Oscars will lead to riots...

Btw, loved your line on HK... 'Lydia Sum has died'... Hahaha

Dave Teo incident wasn't publicised because he was armed and thought to be dangerous to the public. This time the escapee didn't pose an imminent danger to the public, also not publicised...

Sounds smelly... very smelly.... =P

Terrorist escaped: no imminent danger because not armed, only limped.

NSF escaped escaped: great danger because SAF would have to replace one lost rifle. Very leceh, all that paperwork to get new rifle.

MIW made mistake: honest mistake (only pay millions, affordable by singaporean standards)

all other low life forms in singapore made mistake: grave breach of internal security because it will threaten the social fabric and economic stability of singapore

MIW raise salaries: necessity to ensure efficient and incorruptible government

peasants to raise wages: unthinkable sin to encourage clutch mentality and sure way for singapore to spiral down the economic chute of poverty. Wives and daughters will have to become maids overseas

Moral values?
(Anonymous)
2008-03-03 02:03 am UTC (link)
Would this be because the political prisoners hold certain moral values and learned from school that once you are in prison, you have to sit in for the whole term and try hard not to escape, even if you have the chance.

Non political prisoners on the other hand didn't attend the lessons for some reason.:->

With Mas escape, it shows that Singapore so far has only model prisoners who honestly think that they deserve the punishment.

Actually when I take a step back, I find Singapore quite an entertaining place to live lah. This type of cuckoo act, only can find in uniquely Singapore. Mr Khaw just mentioned about means testing for all suckers earning $3,200. Let us see how ST will report it tomorrow, or will this selamat thing still get top exposure.

In the meantime, debate on CPF annuity life will come soon, and again it will be glossed over by our MSM.

Heck, even the Malaysia election is getting more colourful coverage than our parliament sittings. And guess what, no one is talking about our budget surplus and how screwed up the finance minister was. Tharman looked quite happy on TV yesterday, commenting about how the public is so good and supportive, compared to those NETIZENS. Hahaha!
