Uncanny Echoes: Consistency or Striking Staleness?
1. "Teachers are in a unique position of authority. . . . The values they hold are also an important consideration as they are role models for our children." -- Minister of State for Education Lui Tuck Yew rambling about explaining the MOE's rejection of relief teaching applicants when questioned about Alfian Sa'at's rejection. (Reported by CNA on 28 August 2007.)

2. "[The MOE] does not condone any open espousal of homosexual values by teachers in any form, in or out of the classroom” as "teachers are in a unique position of authority and are often seen as role models by their students." -- MOE statement regarding a teacher coming out as a gay in a blog. (Reported by Fridae on 10 September 2007.)

Gay teacher espouse homosexual values. (What on earth are homosexual values? Molly is sleepy. Shall comment later.)

Using the same logic, Christian teachers will espouse Christian values, Muslim teachers Muslim values, Chinese teachers Chinese values, foreign teachers foreign values (!!!!)...

Gosh, how can we tolerate Christian, Muslim, Chinese, or even foreign teachers given that we can't let people espouse whatever values they have in our sensitive multi-racial, multi-religious society. What if a Chinese teacher advocates eating pork to Muslim students? That will result in social disintegration! What we need are papized teachers espousing papish values. Or perhaps bimbotic bloggers espousing bimbotic values (which are pretty harmless, really).

Teachers' attitude IS IMPORTANT as a tool of influence to the students

Mr Lui should relly look deep into the attitudes of teachers since he recognises their importance towards the students' behaviour.

I have an opportunity to coach a bunch of teachers from a secondary school for a certain training. They exhibited all the traits that they do not want their students to have such as:
1) No response to trainer's questions;
2) Telling the trainers and coaches that they used the wrong method;
3) Place truents;
4) Talking during sessions and disturbing others;
5) Throw tantrum to trainers and coaches;
6) Gang up against the trainers and coaches;
7) Show the "I dare you to change me" attitude;
8) Already say that it does not work even before testing it out;
9) Not serious at all in class;

I think when come to Homosexuality, it is only minor problem when compare with these attitudes. If they are not willing to accept other peoples' model of the world, how are they going to improve themselves, let alone doing a good job in teaching.

I think a better phrase would be " all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others".

What we need is a dose of Joker Lee becoming gay himself,and from the way he cross his leg is effeminate, he is become gay-like.

And also the dose of Bimbotic Molly becoming a lesbian cat, so that Molly can live happily after.

Yeah you are right about democratic values. It is true that we do not have democratic values, else we cannot make it to the following news.

See here:
http://www.freedomhouse.org/template.cfm?page=70&release=548

Extract:
The diverse group of 16 governments that make up the Community of Democracies Convening Group, which is responsible for issuing invitations to the club’s fourth ministerial meeting, decided not to invite Thailand, Fiji, Singapore, Qatar, Venezuela, Bangladesh and Tunisia, all of whom had participated in or observed the last meeting held in Santiago in 2005. Their exclusion is consistent with the recommendations of the experts panel and underscores the Convening Group’s determination to keep out those governments which have failed to uphold the democracy and human rights commitments of the group.

If not, our MFA minister has to attend another conference. He is very busy, you know.

Thankfully. You mean we used to be mistaken for having those terrible western democratic values? Tsk, tsk... didn't these people know that our great asian values and western democracy are mutually exclusive??

In fact, the ministers and the gov should be happy of not been invited to the democracy meeting because :
1. They will be centre of mockery and sarcastic remark.
2. if they went, they will not have enough time to fix opp party and to buy supporter vote.
3. Downgrade their elite status. ONly Singapore gov is first world and world class, the rest is just peanuts.
4. Our millions dollar ministers has high prestige, MIT type qualification, and wealth. Other ppl attending are just poor, good-for-nothing, useless crappy whiner in the eyes of our ministers.
5. OUr president will teach the world how to be a good and obedient expensive dog. However, the rest of people there choose to be rebellious human, and so have no sense of proportion. What the democracy meeting need is a dose of AUTHORITARIAN lecture by LKY.

The teachers i had were like mathematics teacher teaching maths, history teacher teaching history etc. Maybe these days lessons are more specialized and we have to differentiate subjects like female-heterosexual-indian-muslim-vegetarian-whiteshirt-mathematics from mere mathematics.
